Warning signs of a fraudulent offer
- A diploma is promised with no classes, exams or final thesis — "in a few days" or "urgently"
- You are invited to choose the university, subject and graduation year as if they were order options
- They claim the document is "in the register" or "will pass any check"
- They ask for full prepayment to a private individual's card or in cryptocurrency
- They want your passport details and photos sent over a messaging app
- They rush you: "discount today only", "only a few places left"
What legitimate online study looks like
Distance learning is an ordinary form of study offered by many educational institutions. A legitimate programme has a clear provider: an educational institution licensed or accredited to teach. You can check its details in official sources, not just on its own website.
The programme has a curriculum: a list of subjects, deadlines and forms of assessment. You attend classes, complete assignments and pass interim tests. Study ends with a final assessment, and only after that does the institution issue a document — in Russia, its details are entered in the FRDO register.
If an offer involves no curriculum, no exams and no assessment, only payment, it is not study. An education document cannot be bought legally: this is the sale of a forged document, and buying one is document forgery and fraud — in Russia, liability is set by Article 327 of the Criminal Code. FRDO and these Criminal Code articles are Russian; in other countries, verify via the issuing institution or the national authority.
